I have been watching the latest of Shaggy's videos about contact racing, he has a great idea on how to get the starts to flow better. simply the first ten seconds no one floors it directly and just wait till everyone is going. I recommend watching them and write here what you think about it.

I think that its silly and when you have skilled contact racers its not even a big issue most of the time. Rarely do I get in wreck in the first turn and if I do its because someone didnt use their brakes but I dont think a rolling start solves that problem.

people can wait all they want good racers rarely get caught up and personally i can nearly always gain 4-5 places off the start

I'm also going to say that a good racer wouldn't crash anyway at the start. It only really happens in races with randoms when someone in a quick car floors into a slower car and everyone gets held up.

I'd agree with what most people here are saying. If everyone pays attention to the car in front and reacts to them appropriately then everything is fine but the amount of times I've slowed down so I don't rear end the car in front only to be hit from behind is ridiculous! Rolling starts are definitely not necessary but I can understand why they have implemented it into their races. To be fair...I've never really thought much of Shaggy (yeah he's quick) but since he's been doing the contact racing I've gained a little more respect for him. Most of what he's said about contact racing in the last 2/3 videos I'd agree with, so I may start paying attention to his videos more now.

This is why I wish the turbo start was done away with. When everyone does it, what is the point? When someone does not get it you almost always rearend them because you expect them to get it. Seems kind of silly to me.

I only think rolling starts would be good if there was a qualifying round before the race so you wouldn't have to mess about sorting grid positions, you put the race to one more lap than usual, have a person who isn't racing to act as the pace car for the first lap and as soon as they pass the start/finish line the racing starts. This is pretty much what happened in f1 with saftey cars up until the rule change this year. Also the guy who qualified in first and is behind the pace car could hold the field up and then go all out to try and catch the others out. Like this - youtu.be/rNcK1DtlOVw?t=3m36sSo overall, yeah rolling starts could be good for a race with a qualifier but for a normal race, no.

I agree to everything that was said above and wanna add that probably the most exciting part of a race is the start. btw the pace car warm up lap idea is great

I don't see why it's a good idea? As when you are done with first corner, then there's the next corner and everybody will just floor it and then some jerk crash everyone. End of story.

My race doesn't beggin until about the second or third corner depending on the track, before that I'm playing temple run: lamppost / spun out cars edition.
Maybe each of us just need to improve our spacial awareness. Instead of looking to gain positions immediately, look to defend and only gain when it's clear. It's not normally the case when we play playlists now and then. I've witnessed and been part of some great racing where we managed to get three cars round first corners and still keep it clean and competitive. Probably just the initial excitement of either a crew v crew or weekly event that makes people feel the need to push that extra bit harder, which unfortunately ends up going bad sometimes.

i normally have problem with being to eager in the starts cus i need a good start, i dont have the pace to catchup to you guys but if i can get up in front and start defending right from the start i have a chance to get a good position. I know racecraft but i'm just not fast enough.

I couldn't really put it better than that to be honest. It really is just a spacial awareness thing for the most part. Couple that with reaction times in a video game (compared to real life) and and it can make for one big clusterf*ck of a start. And then add to that the camera angles in this game, some people use the closest 3rd person which severely limits you're peripheral vision and not wanting to look behind you while turning, it makes it very difficult to know exactly where others are on the road in relation to you. The most I can do is just trust the people around me and hope I come out the other side clean. I honestly don't think there is much more that can be done apart from trusting your fellow racers.
