Just something I've been pondering lately. A person's answer will or may be biased due to the way they drive, but it's interesting to know what tracks types other racers favor the most. This is opinion based and may cause disagreements, but that's just a given.
With that being said, what is your favorite type of track and why? Long, medium, or short? Now I know the poll "implies" that long tracks aren't necessarily technical when it comes to hairpins and chicanes, but I'm going by the majority. Most of the long tracks in the game don't have those elements of racing. Medium and short tracks tend to have them more frequently.
Some examples of each type of track to give you a good idea:
Long Tracks: Nurburgring(R* Verified) The North Loop(NoDo) Grand Tour(R*)
Medium Tracks: Monaco Grand Prix(R* Verified) Holy Drift Mountain(R* Verified) Vinewood Tours(R*)
Short Tracks: Coupe D'Etat(R* Verified) Cutting Coroners(R*) Los Santos Grand Prix(NoDo) Around The Mirror(R* Verified)
You don't have to choose these tracks, they just serve as a general example of what I'm talking about.
For me, I prefer tracks like The North Loop. Open roads, dangerous twists and turns that can take a large toll if you mess up, and long laps are more interesting to me than the medium and short tracks in the game. My favorite track for a long time was Nurburgring, especially the downhill section as it got me familiar with that area in general for racing, and it was a nice transition from racing in the city all the time. There are some Xbox-Only tracks I would mention, but obviously not everyone would know about the tracks as we have many PS3 members. Anyways, I would say the idea of having 16 racers on a huge track is much more appealing to me than if it were to be the smaller sizes, it just feels more natural and exciting to me. I've mentioned this a long time ago, as a lot of this has to do with my lack of Racecraft compared to many other drivers. I would like to believe I've gotten better, but that definitely goes in to my preference of tracks.
So what about you? And remember to explain why, it doesn't have to be a long answer either!

I'll go with long tracks. I love North Loop, definitely my most favorite track in the game. Mostly for the reasons you mentioned. Driving around it even seems kind of poetic to me. Just you, the car and the beautiful road. All in the greatest scenery GTA has to offer, with the potential for some stunning lighting. And it doesn't matter if you choose to get funked in the earhole, sail into the sunset or listen to something that has yet to get cool, you're always in for a good time on The North Loop. I like Nurburgring too. It was one of my favorites before NL came. I don't really like tracks like Grand Tour or Pier to Pier, just because they don't have any challenging parts. It's just straights and mile wide corners. Not so fun in my book.
Also, I hate poles. Any race that doesn't have any poles in the racing line immediately gets some bonus points from me. I know they're a part of the GTA racing experience, but not a part I enjoy, that's for sure.

If there was a perfect middle ground between short and middle I'd have voted for that but there isn't so I went for medium. As an F1 fan I've grown up watching short/medium technical tracks so naturally that is what I prefer to race on. I still love longer tracks, Spa, Nordschleife, Bathurst, Sarthe (Le Mans) are just a few examples of amazing circuits but modern F1 doesn't have that many long tracks apart from Spa and I much prefer the technicalities of a smaller street style circuit. I find it very satisfying battling for position through consecutive corners (which are most likely to appear on a smaller circuit), thinking ahead and trying to outsmart your opponent over the course of a few corners where one wrong line at the start of the section will mean you're out of position going into the next. It's a nice game of chess...only with monstrous engines at your command Edit: Nice choice in topic by the way! I'm very interested to see other peoples thoughts as well

Exactly what pundip said. Big F1 fan, and that's the length of a track I like. It's all about the 3 S's. Spa, Silverstone, Suzuka. Fast, fun but technical.
I love the Nordschleife and the North Loop in the game, but to me they're not proper circuits, except only on special occasions.

I like longer laps with unforgiving and dangerous sections that reward concentration. I do still love the LSGP for what it is but nothing compares to cruising through Blaine County on the open winding roads. Seeing as longer city races are rare, I'll post my version of Silverstone for the PS3, it is fast and long (2:30 lap time) but works best with 4+ laps. socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/gtav/jobs/job/qrR49Z55okilm5BIYEq83Q?platformId=null

I'm really a mixed bag as far as this goes. I enjoy large and open tracks and how they never fail to put me in a good mood, but I also have a certain disdain for them, which I'll explain below. So in case any of you didn't know, I have no motorsport background; I'm more of a skiing/mountain biking/kayaking kind of guy. In all those sports, movement is key; the terrain around you is constantly changing and if you don't adapt, you end up in the snow, dirt, or water. I've always felt that GTA racing is a safe comparison to these since you are doing the same things in game: adapting to terrain, getting to know your equipment better, and in general just pushing yourself to be more able in the sport. This, unfortunately, leads to me thinking harshly of open tracks because they feel comparable to a green run, a grassy field, or calm water. They are easy to do good on, and while I know I could improve on them, I already feel as though I am well enough suited to handle any open and non-technical track people can throw my way. To me the tracks feel uninspired, dragged out, and at times flat out boring. Now what I said is true about how the tracks do give me joy, but that is often through scenery, much like what Renegade1911 said. However great the view, at the end of the day it can't keep me entertained forever. This is where the tight and compact races enter, and why I absolutely love them. They are GTA's version of the double black diamonds; the aerial features; the white water. They have a feeling of high stakes. They pass by so quickly even if you're moving half as fast. They give that excitement I want because there's always something new happening, and if you don't adapt, you get left on the sidelines. To me, they hold an atmosphere of tension and competition, and because they have the chicanes, the hairpins, the crossroads and more stuffed into a two kilometer track, they truly live up to the name I give them. In my mind, the short tracks are truly skillful because between the cornering combinations, speed variation, and common features, there is always something to keep you entertained. That is what I want from a run/hill/river/track: constant excitement.

I like any length of race, as long as it's technical and not a speed/bumper race all the way around the island.
I love Holy Drift Mountain and Mount Squigglez (by SUPER HEATSY), but I also love LSGP and Inner Loop.

I believe that flowy tracks are the best ones and appeal to everyone too. The length doesn't really play a role.

I like short tracks. Usually ones that are about 45 seconds to about 1:20 long
