I went to Rotterdam City Racing multiple times and one time we were standing 1.5 metres away from Alonso (driving for Renault then) accelerating from a standstill. The rest of the day I didn't hear anything anymore

I did a bunch of late 90s/early 00s V10 GPs - starting with the 3 litre V10s and then stopped about 2003 before going back in 2009 for when Button won for Brawn. It was obviously V8 by then, but you don't have a comparison until the 2 seater V10 did laps for people who won promotional competitions and then you hear the difference. V8s were loud, you needed hearing protection; V10s scream so loudly it hurts as it goes by. With hearing protection in.
Drivers used to complain about the noise lol.

He performed admirably throughout his career and was exactly the driver Williams needed this year. Maybe he has lost a tenth or two, but he brought the experience and benchmark that was needed alongside Stroll. Thanks Felipe Massa, it was a pleasure watching you race.

Yeah you can’t really blame someone for wanting to carry on doing something they’ve pursued for 30 odd years. It’s never the case that the “top” 20 drivers are all in the sport at the same time. However, I can’t think of many truly great drivers that didn’t retire at about the right time. Schumacher is the obvious one but in 06 it was a good decision. The bad decision was to come back.

Exactly and having spent a little time years ago talking with him on different occasion he really is a genuine good guy.

I really like Felipe Massa. He is a great driver. It was a shame given the circumstances that he didn't win the championship in 08. He's a bit long in the tooth at this point but he hasn't caused issues any more so than other older drivers. I'd surmise that younger drivers have caused more issues on track.
I just don't understand the Massa hate. I wish him well as he moves on to other endeavours be it racing or otherwise.

Good race yesterday. Obviously Hamilton provided a lot of the entertainment and tension towards the end, but shout out to Ricciardo for a really good performance. Working up through the files after that start was very impressive. Gasly also looks very promising, can’t for him to evolve into Haunter....
