I'm all for debate about controversial subjects and I have my own pretty strong opinion about some of the issues raised here but I think this thread has hit a brick wall. It even appears that someone has deleted their account because of this thread.
Let's move on.
*edit* the irony with this thread is it's a debate about causing offence and how someone has left a popular and well-established TV program. Inevitably this has caused some offence and led to the account deletion and exit of a fellow NoDo crew member.
Despite this I've decided to re-open it since this is a very hot topic but please be considerate and responsible before you click “reply” or “post”.

From all I hear, Clarkson is a racist and everyone knew that for a looooooong time. But he did not get fired because of this, right?
I thought he got fired because he physically assaulted one of his colleagues (a producer?). Why don't you try punching someone at work? Also, try to make half-racist remarks. I wonder which gets the most negative attention.
I said it in the first racism discussion in this thread (before it was cool): punching someone is worse than being racist. BBC knows this, and they were absolutely right to act on this. There's a clear victim and a clear perpetrator, with hard evidence. Now that's a case BBC does not want to get involved with, for good reason.
Companies have zero tolerance towards physical violence. If you're going to be mad at anyone about this whole thing, be mad at Jeremy Clarkson for being the biggest retard in the UK.

It's never right to get in a fight over missing dinner. So Clarkson was definitly being stupid when he did. As for the racism issue: EVERYONE makes racist remarks/jokes from time to time. Cheap Dutch/Scots, stupid Belgians, lazy blacks//mexicans, Morrocans/Turks smelling of garlic/thieves, Germans only eat sausage/drink beer/steal your bike (Dutch joke) and all Arabs are terrorists. Not to forget that in the eyes of almost everyone, if your skin is lighter, you're racist.
There's imho a HUGE difference between making a, allbeit racist, joke, and walking around in a white robe with a pointy hat. If I watch Chris Rock or George Lopez making an 1,5 hour show filled with racism/predjudice which makes me laugh, doe that make me racist just cause I'm white?
In the end racism is a topic which can be endlessly debated, just like religion for that matter, without ever reaching the point where everyone agrees.

Everyone will only agree only when they can be equal, but without losing their 'identity', which means they can never be equal. It's like trying to explain what "nothing" actually means!

Anyone else notice Clarkson = Car Lark Son? He larks around with cars and is someone's son.
I (just about) remember Top Gear before its current format. I was REALLY into cars when I was young. I won't miss the tedious jokes and casual racism/sexism, but I hope the show continues and retains all the things that make it easy viewing.

I just discovered this thread...
Well to be honest, I just wonder what Jeremy is going now, I mean he's a big name so he'll be on screen soon enough.
Though firing someone is certainly more than I expected to happen, perhaps a mazzive pay ut, but out right firing was a surprise, back then...
Frankly I was surprised it took this long for him to do something like this, I mean that's kinda why he still has so much support, he wasn't fired for cheating on someone or what not, but by being well... Jeremey Clarkson-ish.
That's pretty much all I've thought about the subject, not sure I'll keep watching Top Gear though, I mean it started as his show, and taking someone off their own show well...
Fawlty Towers, Basil Fawlty was hilarious. When it came to the US making it they decided one character didn't work by the name of Basil. And that's why we haven't heard of that version...
