Skill-based combat, a grim and gruelling atmosphere, an ambiguous open world, fantastic and weird creatures straight from the Cthulhu mythos of design and philosophy, a character who praises the sun. I have a feeling I'd absolutely love them more if I had time for them. I've always been put off by the amount of dedication you need for them but also admired them from distance for this alongside the awesomely dark aesthetic. >driftin >doesnt even play these games >still writes a perfect description >makes me wanna play one of the souls game >should absolutely play it himself

Let's discuss these games; Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, and the unreleased Dark Souls 3.
Don't know what this thread will turn into because of the variety of experiences that players get from these games. I just thought it would be kinda cool to talk with you guys about arguably the greatest gaming franchise.
So let's make this a little fun at the same time.
If you are a fan of any of these games preface your 1st post here by answering these questions:
1. Favorite Souls game? 2. Favorite Weapon or spell? 3. Do you PvP?
My answers: 1. Dark Souls 1 2. Demon's Souls Uchigatana 3. Yes I enjoy invading, expecially if I face gankers.

I've only played Demon's Souls but I love the whole ethos behind the serious. Cureently DS2 is like £25 on PSN but I really want to play them in order...so I'm hoping they do a PS4 remaster just before 3 comes out, as I'd rather have them on my PS4 than my PS3 which is getting less and less play time at the moment. I'll try out Bloodborne at some point, but I prefer the medieval theme of the Demon's/Dark Souls games than the vampires/werewolves etc of Bloodborne....don't get me wrong, vampires and werewolves are badass too, I just prefer the medieval design more.
1 - Demon's Souls 2 - Blueblood sword was pretty OP from what I remember. 3 - I played it waaay after it came out so there wasn't anyone left to PvP...I prefer the idea of PvE in this type of game anyway

I'm a huge fan and I say that as someone who's only played a huge amount of Bloodborne. I have Demon's Souls too but I haven't played it, only downloaded it because it was free on PS Plus, although I've been thinking of going back to play it. I've also been thinking of getting Dark Souls and Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin.
Even before Bloodborne came out and before it was even announced it was a series I really wanted to get into. I adore this kind of old-school gaming where combat is tight and requires timing and strategy, there's lots of exploration, the levels are maze-like and intricate, the atmosphere is thick, the level and character / monster design is extremely creative and full of variety and there's no choice of difficulty. It takes gaming back to its roots. I find it rewarding, engrossing and very fun.
Even when it's frustratingly difficult I don't want it any other way because as Pundip said the whole ethos and philosophy behind the game is excellent. There's no compromising anything.
I also adore the fact that Bloodborne takes its cues from gothic horror and Lovecraft, two things I'm extremely obsessed about.
1. Favorite Souls game? So far Bloodborne, which I also consider to be one of my favourite games ever. I trust other people who say Dark Souls 1 is just as good, if not better though. I hope one day to find out, although I think I will prefer the horror setting of Bloodborne to the dark fantasy of Dark Souls and I also prefer faster combat.
2. Favorite Weapon or spell? Ludwig's Holy Blade or the Rifle Spear, although that's extremely OP.
3. 3. Do you PvP? I do PvP a bit but generally I prefer the exploration and doing things on my own.
