I really can't fathom the idea of speed-running these games. I guess once you've mastered them you want extra challenges but to me it's all about immersing yourself in them, exploring every area, unlocking every shortcut, reading every item description, mastering each weapon, spending a long time discovering everything, reading the lore and piecing everything together yourself for hours and hours. That's the real enjoyment.
I really admire speed-runners though but to me it's the difference between sitting down for a tasting menu at a 3 Michelin star restaurant and ordering a takeaway from the local fast-food joint.

No need to parry the pursuer. Just roll into his swings and you can't get hit. Hope this halps ^-^

He's very easy to parry to be fair so it makes good practice because parrying is usually my least used tactic. Most enemies I roll behind and backstab.
I currently have the Fire Longsword at +7 so it's pretty OP at the moment which has kinda taken the brutal experience away a bit, but i now have the Uchigatana which I'm using more and more.

Speedrunning was not what I set out to do with the game. My first playthrough was super duper duper slow. The following playthroughs are also slow and methodical. Trying to find every last secret. But after finishing the game for the 5-6 time I went to Twitch to view other people playing it and I came across the speedrunners and it was very fascinating. For a few weeks there was an intense battle between the runners with multiple people pushing the world record time lower and lower. I was curious if I could do it myself since I knew the game very well and was able to beat it without a shield and so I just tried it. It was a very interesting experience to say the least. I definitely gained even more respect for the really good speedrunners. It's insane what they're doing. Basically what I'm saying is that you can get the best of both worlds out of these games. Just to clearify though, the very first playthrough of a Souls game is an experience like no other. I would never try going as fast as I can in an early playthrough. It's just some extra fun for me later.

How did your time compare to the speedrunners Drakov? 1h40 is very quick but I'm sure those guys would have been on another level

I watched a Bloodborne speed run earlier. It was insane.
The guy skips past the first two bosses and gets into a completely different area of the world using a glitch, uses another glitch to freeze the third boss on the spot and stop them from attacking him, uses another glitch to duplicate a bunch of items and level himself up high really quickly and then just proceeds to wreck everything from then on.
He completes it in about 25 minutes.

Surely glitches won't officially count towards a world record time though? I don't know anything about the speedrunning community though so they might accept that stuff.

They called it "any% duperun". I think in the speedrunning community there are groups who do things legitimately, then there's the ones who use glitches and tricks, ones who do it 100% etc. Obviously major MAJOR spoilers but for anyone interested here it is. It's absolutely insane. He also taught me a few tricks about certain items I didn't even know after 3 completions of the game.

Actually just on NG+. I've completed the game twice on two different saves / builds and completed the finale three times. The first was just my first run through and I didn't realise there were different endings. Before the end there's a dialogue choice where each one leads to completely different endings and paths in the PVE. The second / third I started a brand new game from scratch, got right to the end before the choice, saved my game to a USB drive and did the remaining ones by loading the save up and choosing a different dialogue. Saved a lot of time although I wouldn't have minded doing it on NG+.

How did your time compare to the speedrunners Drakov? 1h40 is very quick but I'm sure those guys would have been on another level I can't recall. It was an old route compared to the latest ones. I think the best time on this route was 1h20 ish. Surely glitches won't officially count towards a world record time though? I don't know anything about the speedrunning community though so they might accept that stuff. It depends on the category. Most runs are in the "Any%" category. Which basically means "finish the game as fast possible by any means". Which includes all kinds of tricks, glitches, checkpoint/spawn manupilation, etc. EVERYTHING is allowed except for hacking or cheating. Then there are categories like "100%" where you complete everything in the game. Or "All bosses". And of course there are also glitchless categories but they're pretty niche in the grand scheme of speedrunning. The "Summer Games Down Quick" charity speedrun marathon is on this week. Go check it out They already raised 770.000+ dollars this time. www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
