I hope I'm not spoiling it but believe me when I say vampires and werewolves are an extremely small portion of what Bloodborne has to offer. The kind of horror that is slowly unveiled as you play it is extremely weird and the monsters are very creatively designed and integrated into the lore in a unique way.
It's still not medieval but the classic, almost cliched tropes of its initial gothic horror face are a ruse for something much weirder and darker.

One of the slightly off putting, but really now a big deal, things to me is that they increased the pace in Bloodborne. While it is still a tactical, methodical game, where one wrong move or miss timed attack will get you killed, from everything I've watched, read and been told it is quite significantly faster paced than the Souls games. Not a deal breaker for me at all but it is something I'm wary of. I'll definitely pick it up hen it drops in price a bit, which I assume will be closer to the release of DS3 EDIT: I just think that this is much more intimidating, scarier and badass IMO Than this, which is obviously scary and intimidating in it's own way...but it just doesn't do it for me.

EDIT: I just think that this is much more intimidating, scarier and badass IMO Than this, which is obviously scary and intimidating in it's own way...but it just doesn't do it for me. Comparing a Dark Souls 3 boss (which is absolutely awesome, reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus) to a small and common Bloodborne enemy isn't fair. This is more the kind of thing that Bloodborne has to offer: Don't get me wrong though, I really like both worlds. Any developer that spends as much time as From Software designing these kinds of fantastic, intimidating, gigantic and creative worlds and creatures gets my respect.

Didn't realise he was a common enemy, he looks quite boss like to me. Yes, the ones that you posted are scary and intimidating too, I think it's just that I prefer a more traditional fantasy setting over a demonic one. I love both genres across a range of media though. But yeah, like I said. I'll probably pick it up and try it out for myself when it drops in price. That way I can form a first hand opinion on the game.

I think you are both right. Look at dark souls 1. It's a scary game especially if you are figuring out things by yourself, but it's not a horror game, the horror comes from not knowing what new enemy or trap is behind a fog wall, having unseen enemies shoot darts at you in blight town, or hearing the subtle breath of a titanite demon in anor londo.
Bloodborne may have a more horror setting, but again, the scariness of the game comes from its mechanics and level design more than anything.
I'm currently making my way through my 1st chalice dungeon in bloodborne, and I can say with honesty that I'm just as apprehensive to progress forward as I was when I first reached the the lower undead burg in dark souls 1.

The scariness is definitely there when it comes to the gameplay and the high risk stakes that you're always put in, but I also think in Bloodborne the atmosphere, the sound design, the darkness, the tension and the freakiness of the creatures can be genuinely frightening. There's one moment in Bloodborne where you're wondering around a college and it's really unsettling.

Two more trophies and I will platinum Bloodborne. The game is an absolute masterpiece and I'm sad it's coming to an end but this guy is wrecking me. It's the Bloodletting Beast in one of the Pthumerian chalice dungeons and his AOE attack makes me want to stab myself with a rusty screwdriver.

I'm about 13/14 hours in and have at least another 60ish hours to go is DSII The guy I posted is called The Pursuer, and that is literally all he does. He's one of the first bosses which is relatively easy, but after you beat him he literally shows up in several places (as an optional boss) and I've lost around 40k souls to this guy in his random encounters. He's kinda easy to parry but fuck me is he fast! Hits like a tonne of bricks too!

I almost just had a heart attack. I had a thumb spasm and accidentally hit 'New Game' on the title screen and being away from the series for a while, I forgot that multiple characters are there when you press continue.
I honestly thought that 18 hours had just gone down the shitter...well, 17hrs 49mins to be precise lol.

Finally beat the Bloodletting Beast and I have no idea how I did it! Just spammed R1 and circle and spammed triangle whenever I got hit. After a while I somehow riposted him and visceral attacked him then did a combo and killed him. I didn't even have the game's volume on high, I was listening to music and in a party listening to others speak. I was so shocked I stood there for a minute wondering what happened. After 15 attempts using strategies, timing and dodges this spam attack victory came out of nowhere.
Now I'm on the defiled chalice dungeon and it's kicking my ass. I killed the first boss who was pretty easy but it's the general common enemies that are mental. There are so many, they constantly rush you, the area is full of traps, explosives and fire and you're only allowed half-health. Dear lord.

I played through Dark Souls 2 in 1h40m DS1 and Demon's Souls are both equally amazing. DS1 might be the better game but Demon's Souls was my first Souls game so it takes a special place in my heart. DS2 was a very good game but it didn't have the magic the other games had. Bloodbourne I haven't played yet and I'm miserable because of it. I will probably play this in 15 years on a PS4 emulator. The sadness. I suck at PVP. Oh and I created a Souls Thread "years ago" lol

1h40?! That can't have been your first play through surely? I'm currently on 20ish hours and i've only just done the Skeleton Lords (they're probably the easiest boss i've come across in a souls game). I have at least another 40 hours to go including the DLC and I'm gonna love every single masochistic minute of it .

I did it with some older speedrun straights took me at least 40-50 hours on the first playthrough
