Okay, so far so normal, I hear you say. What's your unique selling proposition?
Well, there are always three divisions racing at the same time. Some players change divisions every couple of minutes. They even often need to switch cars during the event. And the winner will not be clear until the last minutes, I promise! But the winner takes it all, namely a really nice prize money.
Three divisions? What?
Ok, let's start from the beginning. Before the race begins, I will tell each one of you which car you need to take. A reddish Warrener (for Division 1), a greenish Stanier (Division 2) or a blueish Glendale (Division 3). No custom car of course, since "Folkrace" is usually about cheap and old and slow cars.
When the race starts, I'll assign each one of you a place on the starting grid which consists of three rows. One for each Division.
When the grid is done, there are three lanes of the street full with cars. The cars of each division are nicely aligned bumper to bumper behind each other.
Ok, I think I've got it. So six Warreners behind each other on the left lane, six Staniers behind each other on the middle lane, and six Glendales behind each other on the right lane.
Exactly! Now, if you look on the map I have provided, the location of the starting grid is at point 1.
But wait! How do you decide which car I get?
Glad, you asked! I'll assign the Division 1 cars to the lowest level players, the Division 3 cars to the highest level players. And the Division 2 cars of course to the medium level players. Simply ascending from lowest to highest level get the best to worst starting positions.
Hey that's unfair!
Maybe, but it's more fun! The best drivers need to work to get into the better Divisions, which is one of the main points of the event!
I'll just use my second character for this event. He's at level 5.
Do you want everyone else laughing at you for being such a coward? No? That's what I hoped.
Okay, now we have the starting grid. What next?
I'll signal the Division 1 cars when to start. It's a rolling start, so overtaking is possible from point 2 on the map. In-game it's a beautiful "Start/Finish" gate.
Twenty seconds later, I'll signal the Division 2 cars to go, and again twenty seconds later the cars of Division 3. The whole round takes about 3 minutes and 30 seconds. The finish line is in fact a hole in a container, so there is no need for a photo finish, since only one car can go through it at a time. See point 3 on the map. I'll stand there and write down the finish positions of each driver. All drivers now drive slowly down to point 4 (do not overtake anymore, or confusion will happen!), then up again to point 5, and back to point 6, where the car has to be repaired. At last, every driver puts their car to its correct starting position on the grid according to their Division and current place.
Well, that still doesn't tell me how I can get into a higher Division!
You are correct. Now it might get a little bit complicated, but don't worry. I'm sure you'll understand. The two drivers with the last places of Division 1 and Division 2 get demoted to Division 2 and Division 3. Whereas the two best drivers of Division 2 and Division 3 get promoted to Division 1 and Division 2!
Here's an example:
Result of one round from 1st to 6th place:
Division 1: Agnes, Bert, Claude, Doris, Emilio, Franz
Division 2: Giulio, Heinrich, Ignaz, Jack, Krysztof, Liam
Division 3: Marco, Norbert, Olivia, Pierre, Qamar, Réné
The starting grid for the next round would be:
Division 1: Agnes, Bert, Claude, Doris, Giulio, Heinrich
Division 2: Emilio, Franz, Ignaz, Jack, Marco, Norbert
Division 3: Krysztof, Liam, Olivia, Pierre, Qamar, Réné
As you see, Emilio, Franz, Krysztof and Liam got demoted to the lower Division and drive now Giulios and Heinrichs Stanier as well as Marcos and Norberts Glendale, whereas Giulio, Heinrich, Marco and Norbert got promoted to the higher Division and drive the cars of Emilio, Franz, Krysztof and Liam. So those eight get out of their old cars and into the correct cars of their new Division.
Now the next round can start. I will again signal the cars from Division 1 to 3 to start racing with an interval of about 20 seconds.
Wow, really clever! So someone might get from last starting place in Division 3 after three rounds into Division 1!
Thank you, that's flattering. And yes, you are correct. This is what makes the event interesting and a bit unique. Always try to finish a round on first or second place to get promoted, and if you are already in Division 1 or 2, never finish last or second-to-last place, or you'll be demoted.
Okay, any other details I should know about? Like how many rounds? Any special rules towards the end?
Yes, there are some points left out.
There are 9 rounds using the rules mentioned above.
Round 10 is the last round where any Division changes are possible, and for this round it's not two players of every Division getting pro/demoted, but only one. (the slowest racer in Division 1 and 2 gets demoted, and the fastest racer in Division 2 and 3 gets promoted.
The last three rounds (11, 12 and 13) will decide the winner of each Division. With one additional catch: The cars may not be repaired after round 11 and 12! If your car is heavily damaged, then good luck taking all these corners. So take care not to drive into too many trees, buildings, oil pipes etc.
Ah, and respawning is strictly forbidden. If you are totally stuck with your car or even explode on the track, you'll have to wait until everyone has finished their round. Afterwards we might have to respawn some car(s), maybe change places etc. But I do not really expect anyone blowing up or getting really stuck, since the track does not have weird traps and is not too difficult (at least in my opinion).
Sounds thrilling! Anything else?
One tiny thing: I'd love to take a final photo of you all with your dirty and damaged cars at the end. Hope you have one or two minutes, so you all arrange your cars for a nice picture. After this, the winner passes the finish line, so he gets his prize money.
I'm in! Where do I sign?
Reply to this post with the words "pretty" and "please" somewhere, so I'll know that you have read and understood this whole text, and I'll be happy to add you as one of the participants. I don't need to tell you that this is an event where all NoDo racing rules apply, do I? So go ahead, reply to this thread and I'll see you soon on the Murrieta Oil Field!

The grand prizes
So, you want something in your signature that makes readers green with envy? As the winner of Division 1 you receive the prestigious Folkrace:Nickel medal, for Division 2 the Folkrace:Copper medal and for Division 3 the Folkrace:Lead medal.
(On the off-chance that your readers do not get jealous, at least they'll get curious and might ask you where you received this impressive award!
And in case this event will receive critical acclaim, I'll surely host more folkraces in the future, so this very first medal will be something special!
"Famous last words"
This is more a "have fun" event than a super-clean-and-competitive one. I think this should be obvious, since we drive on dirt roads having a couple of obstacles (fences! wrecks!) which stay unprotected. Although I tried to protect the lamp posts and other things that might ruin the fun when run over. Of course this still means that the usual NoDo rules apply. (E.g. waiting for another player whom you pushed into a pit and similar situations.)
Regarding the pre-lobby, if you join this, we'll meet at the entrance of the Murrieta Oil Field. Look for some rage ramps if you like. And be careful not to bring the cops. (Calling your friend Lester will promptly help in case of cop sirens.)
You have to be able to listen to the Teamspeak channel, and it would be great if you have a working microphone and voice.
Hope you all will have a good time! If this event goes well and everyone enjoyed it, I might start similar events in the future. (If you will not have had fun, I'll be a sad panda.)
And spread the word! Tell others who might be interested in this event, since it will be most fun with a full lobby of 18 people!
