Descent and Approach in Mind The low hum of turbines fills the cabin. The occasional reading lights illuminates its user. The scent of the in-flight dinner still hangs in the air. The midpoint of a long flight is often a time of quiet. The quiet of the cabin does not extend to the cockpit though. The flight crew is monitoring flight systems, communicating with air traffic control, and preparing for descent and approach. A similar situation occurs at the midway point of a racing season; fans wait for the races to resume, but teams are busily planning for the second half of the season. The series ventures into uncharted skies this season with reigning Drivers’ Champion OhDarn retiring only a few races into the season. The fact that no former champion is currently on any team roster only further clouds the skies. However, a slew of established and talented veterans remain, eager for the opportunity. Grimreaper of Augury finds himself atop the points pile with 134 after an impressive first half. The series veteran has been able to finish on the podium in 6 out of the 8 races to date; best in the field. However, fellow Augury teammate, xZenvohh, is a mere 3 points behind with 131. The young driver has shown blistering pace posting a pace variance of just 0.45; best in the field. Sitting in a slightly distant third is Progen’s lead driver, Superstepa with 96 points. The veteran driver had a rough opening quarter, but seems to have found his rhythm finishing on every podium since Blaine County Northwest. Financing a championship caliber racing team is not an endeavor for the faint of heart. The shift in chassis and performance measures this season came at a premium, forcing several teams to either cut back on engineering costs or forego fielding a team altogether. However, resourceful team managers always find ways of remaining competitive. The impressive performances of both Augury drivers have propelled the team into a dominant first with 246 points. The team looks unlikely to loosen its commanding lead as both drivers set their sights on the Drivers’ Championship. The reigning Team’s Champion, Progen, finds itself in a distant second with 116 points. Issues with the new chassis hampered the team’s opening quarter, though the team looks poised for a strong second half of the season. A tie breaker in Progen’s favor leaves the newly formed Devin-Xero Racing in third. The young team struggled in the weeks leading up to the midseason break, but have shown they do have the pace to compete for podium points. Progen and Devin-Xero would be wise to keep an eye on Vapid and Pride who remain in the chase as well with 115 and 109 points respectively. While Augury firmly holds first, only seven points separate second from fourth. While race engineers continue to review data from the first half of the season, hoping to glean some performance insights, drivers have already begun preparation for Hill Ary’s Clinton and Monza. Will Augury invoke the infamous Multi-21 to ensure that the team’s goals remain a priority? Will the more technical nature of the season’s remaining courses favor one chassis over the others? Can team strategy overcome raw individual pace? Be sure to stay current with the FlyUS Scoreboard. For the seventh consecutive season Fly US is proud to partner with Crowex as the official airline of the San Andreas Grand Touring Championship. Don’t miss another race this season, contact your local ticketing agent for more information. For the unparalleled SAGTC experience be sure to ask about the Crowex upgrade. Sit back, relax, and shut up.
