Well over the past few days I have noticed that there are quite a few Game of thrones fans in the crew and thought, hey, why not have a thread where people can talk about the show. It has been my favorite TV show for a number of years now and to have other people to talk to about certain events or crazy episodes (I'm sure you all know what I mean (Season 4, Mountain and the Viper)). I will say this, there may be spoilers in this thread so If anyone hasn't watched all the episodes up to the season 4 finale then let this be a warning! Anyway, hopefully you all like this thread and maybe we could get some of the members who don't currently watch the show to begin watching it, I guarantee you will not be disappointed! P.S Winter is coming!

Should put SPOILERS in the title if we are going to discuss events in episodes.

I was thinking that, If you were to discuss something from an episode you should add *SPOILER* at the beginning, just as a warning to other people who might not have seen the episode yet.

Has anyone in the crew read the books? Season 4 featured the most changes from book to screen, and most of them were good or at least interesting changes.

I do! And I am currently halfway through book 5. I'm enjoying it without hurries, as the next one won't probably be published anytime soon. Regarding the TV series, I've watched only the first season. Watching the rest is on my to-do list

I haven't read the books, but I plan to. The thing is, though, too many of the book readers come across as elitist pricks. They love to spoil the show on Youtube, Facebook pages, 9gag, everywhere. And they keep complaining about stuff the show changed or abolished. It's a show, for God's sake, you have to alter stuff to keep it interesting and flowing.
But yeah, I love the show. The best show of all time, in my opinion. The story is great, of course, the quality of sets is almost movie-like and definitely very believable. Acting is good too, great in some cases. And I love that they maintain the quality they started with. Too many good shows descend into mediocrity or even complete awfulness (HiMYM, for example). Not GoT though. Arguably the material they have to work with is great.
These days I'm watching Suits and The Last Ship. Suits I can definitely recommend. It starts of perfectly. Great fun, humor, story and man, those one liners. Even though Suits kinda dropped in quality during the winter part of S03 (they have the seasons divided into summer and winter parts), now S04 is on and it's going strong again. The Last Ship seems to be just dumb military porn so far (only 2 episodes came out so far). I'll give it a few more episodes to catch some breath, but if it doesn't, I think I won't be the only one abandoning this show.
If you guys can recommend any other good shows I'm all ears. I hear True Detective is good. I watched the first episode, but it started off really slow, and I haven't got around to watch more yet.

Renegade1911 I always hold off on calling a show the GOAT until its over. For example: Dexter, Lost, Scrubs, the office. All good shows with critical acclaim that had terrible endings and really final seasons in general. Hell Dexter should of ended in season 4 and Lost should of ended in season 1(writers guild strike ruined it). True Detective is good and the best performance Matthew Mcconaughey has ever given period and Woody Harrelson does a great job too. Give that another go. You must have HBO GO from the sounds of it so Id also watch Entourage(hilarious comedy)and The Sopranos(Drama about the current day mafia lifestyle). Band of Brothers (best WWII show/movie period, seriously it shits on Private Ryan which I consider to be a masterpiece)and the wire is on my next to watch list. Ive heard its amazing but havent started it yet. If you have seen all those I can give more suggestions

I guess if the books take a fall, so will the show. I don't have HBO Go, I have TPB. None of these networks are accessible here I think. I mean I'd pay Netflix for House of Cards, but no can do for my region. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably download some of these for the family vacation. I must say I've also seen a few episodes of the Boardwalk Empire. Some people seem to love it, but I wasn't impressed. That reminds me, I still have to watch the last season of Mad Med. Great show. The kind you just want to grab something to drink or smoke with and just relax.

Ive grown up around Italians my whole life and am somewhat obsessed with mob lore. Also you want to talk to Drakov about the not available in your country issues. He has a proxy site that gets you around that. He posted it in another thread and if I remembered what it was I would tell you myself.

If that's some proxy site so I can pretend I'm not from Czech Rep. then no thanks. If they don't want my business, I don't have the slightest problem with not paying for the stuff.

I tried to read the first books. Emphasis on "tried". I don't know if the French translation ruined it, but I didn't enjoy ASOIAF at all even though I'm an avid reader and an aspiring writer (amateur for almost 11 years now). Besides, I really dislike complains about this or that "not being like in the books". It's a different support, with different people in charge, it should be different from the books. That's why I think the show will be good even if the books aren't because to me, it's already the case. As for the ending, well, we all know it'll suck. Last episodes have been disappointing every time for years, so much that I wonder if they're really bad or if we're just whining too much about the show's ending and don't realize it's actually pretty decent.
Anyway I like Game of Thrones, but only for a handful of characters. Arya and Davos Seaworth as well as a couple others. I have a Stark mug, Stark hoodie, a map of Westeros hung above my bed and a "Valar Morghulis" shirt depicting Arya and her list. I don't really care about Tyrion or Dany to be completely honest.
By the way, if you're looking for a great Game of Thrones video game, I suggest you buy Mount and Blade : Warband for PC. Then download the "A Clash of Kings" mod. It's perfect. In my current playthrough, I'm Davos' most trusted soldier and I'm holding King's Landing in the name of the one true king, Stannis Baratheon. Here's a video, so you can watch how it's like.
