Neutral on the way in and very little oversteer on the way out

Oversteer! For me it makes driving a lot more fun.

Here's a good video explaining the difference.
The wannabe cool racing driver in me says oversteer is preferable but really I prefer understeer as it's easier to handle with throttle control. Oversteer is definitely more fun though.

With what's being discussed here, I'm surprised by the popularity of the Elegy.
For me, this car is the definition of understeer, but it may just be my driving style.

In this game Understeer
In other games it goes either way since I can exit out of a corner faster with Oversteer in some situcations
Can't sayI'm very good at it or replicating it for that matter, though I have noticed that with some cars like the Futo it's actually fasyer to drive it when it oversteers in terms of laptimes at least

RT is an analog control, not digital. ;-] Next time you're in the Elegy in a fast corner, let off of the accel half way, then re-evaluate whether it understeers or oversteers.

I'll try it out. My comments were based on 2 general set of experiences: 1) When taking a hairpin turn, even at slow speeds, the car's turning radius seems limited compared to the Masacro. I know I'm not always optimally setting these up by staying wide heading into the turn, but on some courses there isn't as much room. 2) When taking some higher speed turns, it feels like "understeer, understeer, understeer, then the car spins out" Sounds like I need to spend more time learning to modulate the acceleration to properly control this car. It feels like the Masacro is so much less work given my limited amount of available practice time.

I am definitely godawful at hairpinning the Elegy, agreed with you there.

I think most prefer oversteer because it's more visible and easier to counter. As much as I love racing, I still struggle with strategies to counter understeering cars. For example, the Premier (aka a Chevy Cobalt) I show a fondness for because I used to own that car before it was in an accident and totaled. However, it's FWD. Even fully upgraded I struggled trying to beat players using stock sedans (most people don't keep modified sedans I'm noticing).
With oversteer, it's easy to correct by turning into the turn and feathering the throttle. The problem with understeer is that you can't feather the throttle as effectively to get the rear of the car to straighten out, nor use the steering to help, since you're already turning as sharply as the car can.
