So I'm now on my new PC (finally kasumi lol) I have awful screen tearing, wondering if anyone else is using an AMD card and how they lock to 60. Rivatuner gives me awful awful tearing and the "wait for vertical refresh" setting does nothing when I turn it on. The ingame Vsync is amazing, very fluid but I would like to test for myself if it does slow you down and idk if I can stand the screen tearing while I'm doing testing lol Never ever use the ingame vsync. It slows you down a lot. You're better off using the AMD vsync if you can't handle the screen tearing.

Oh, I thought 'wait for vertical refresh' was a different setting than just vsync. AMD software does not have a "vsync" setting outright, this is supposed to be the substitute. However, it simply does not work. I'm wondering if anyone else here uses AMD and if they have a suitable solution.

I have an AMD GPU (R9 280X) and I'm using ingame vsync. The FPS limiting of the AMD Crimson Relive Software leads to awful tearing. When I turn off ingame VSync and go without any FPS limiting I'm dealing with stuttering. So using ingame vsync is currently my only option. If someone has better working solutions for AMD graphic cards, I'm interested.
I haven't done any tests whether using ingame vsync slows me down.

Since the windows creator's update (which I got 2 days ago) nvidia's vsync haven't done anything for me in-game. Anyone who is experiencing the same and who have found a solution?

I've had this issue seemingly at random. It seems to work again after an Nvidia driver update. I haven't found a way to fix it yet.

imo differences should show up when u not lock your fps to your refresh rate and have unlocked fps. 60 120 144 seems to be ok. idk about 165hz monitors tho. needs to be tested. also I don't think for fluctuating fps between 60 and 144 give u any weird boosts. only unlocked fps that go sky high 150 160 ++ FWIW, this is not true for me and my system. I already get the speed boost when the fps are fluctuating between 80-120 fps. I can't reach fps-rates above 150 with my laptop.

since CHILLI me and others tested this and also videos were posted about it, I can not believe you without evidence tho, can you try to bring something up when you have time ?

Sorry for the wait, I did a (incredibly boring to watch) video about it, but unfortunately I absolutely suck at video editing, so the quality is very poor and the fps-counter on the left upper side is barely visible. I apologize for that. If necessary, I can upload only the video with the 120 fps again, hoping that the fps-counter is better visible, but I want to add that there is no reason for me to make things up, I just wanted to point out that, at least in my case, I indeed get a speed boost with unlocked fps lower than 150. I did that test several times and always got similar results, 1:13 times with 120 fps, 1:15 times with locked to 60 fps.

your test is not really good in terms of that amount of human input that kinda leads to a different result everytime u would do a test just like the way you did--- The straight line testing should be like only pressing RT or W. and btw your video description ->what do you mean with "fluctuating around 120fps" do you have it locked to 120 or nah? we have many tests with unlocked high fps that only have to reach 150+ for a second and things get messed up I think, magic boosts are happening. Also people telling that the ingame vsync slows you down. When u wanna test curb boosts just like u did, try do it with custom curbs wich u can create yourself. Believe me your game should not different from others Continue to do tests, remember to have vsync off and lock your fps to 60 100 120 144 ( unlocked )
This is how u test curb boosts just like you tried to.
this is the latest cloudmcshort test, well done and he invested alot of time.
latest test from adam
you can go to the first post and take a look at a couple more videos, also more straight line testing. I know u say u have boosts because of the fluctuating fps but for example Chilli that smart guy plays with unlocked fps for quite some time and is betweend 60 and 100~ fps all the time and has no issues so far. I also never had issues with fluctuating fps and possible speed differences while racing with others as long as I lock my fps to my refresh rate(144) or below. try to make a bit of a better test with custom curbs and fluctuating fps but lock your fps to 120.Also I wish u could make your fps counter more visible with dxtory or msi afterburner/rivatuner I had to edit this 8 times because I can't england.hehexd

Ok now that I have a capable peecee I did some testing on my own. I created a pretty short track (0.8 miles) with artificial bumps. I held down the trigger as soon as the race launched (banner comes down with track name, etc.) and didn't let go until after I crossed the finish. What I found was: I got all relatively same times between unlocked (90fps), Rivatuner lock to 60, and ingame Vsync (60). Interestingly enough, I got the most consistent times with Rivatuner lock. I would have had video evidence to back this up but when I added my fps lock with Rivatuner OBS crashed and I lost my footage Will compile something later but my main question is if ingame vsync actually does give you slower times. According to adam10603 it's placebo and at this point I would like to believe him because it is the smoothest way of vsyncing to 60 for me. (thanks AMD plus no freesync monitor .-.) kasumi jeffreyb1990 anyone else would like to weigh in on this?

my main question is if ingame vsync actually does give you me slower times. FTFY. Take it around a track you know well, do X (5?) laps with both settings, compare mean/best times on clean laps. This result will be more relevant for you than your sterile track test and whatever others might say, not to mention a much more enjoyable form of testing to conduct.
