my main question is if ingame vsync actually does give you me slower times. FTFY. Take it around a track you know well, do X (5?) laps with both settings, compare mean/best times on clean laps. This result will be more relevant for you than your sterile track test and whatever others might say, not to mention a much more enjoyable form of testing to conduct. Well I ask because I remember someone having some technical explanation as to why in-game vsync would be slower, I just can't remember off the top of my head.

I did a quick test to see if curb boosting in particular is any different with different vsync options. Not saying this is the ultimate answer, but this is what I'm seeing anyway. No real difference whatsoever. Neither in curb boosting or just speed overall.
Sure, dxtory seemed to be a little bit behind, but considering how many bumps I went over, and that I also had to make small adjustments to keep the car straight, I'd say that's still margin of error, or at least not much more than that.
In all 3 cases, the method stated on the screen was the only way of limiting fps, I made sure to have everything else off (and yes, I restarted the game between adjusting the nvidia control panel).

No real difference whatsoever. Neither in curb boosting or just speed overall. Do it 10 times with each setting and make an average. I think using smaller bumps might reduce some of the variance, airtime is weird.

Then again, nobody's saying that you ALWAYS have to limit your FPS, it's mostly for events. That's what i do at least. I run my normal FPS when i just play the game or casually race, but in events where 60 is mandatory for fairness' sake, i'll obviously comply to those rules. It's not really a big deal if you think about it. And again, that's just how the game works and we're just trying to make it as fair as possible for everyone. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

But yea the game is made to run as best as it can and still offer a good experience. The trade-off is causing the physics to be slightly inconsistent, enough to matter to the high level of racing we're into. So to make it as fair as we can within what's available to us, limiting FPS is the best we got.
That's not to say it solves all problems, far from it. But it's what we ended up resorting to in the end to best rule out the majority of random chance. Key word: majority. In the end you'll just have to accept that racing on GTA V isnt going to be 100% fair, the game isnt designed with E-sports level of play in mind.
