Riva Tuner to 63fps and i'm pretty sure you'll be getting slower lap times compared to 60fps. It sounds ridiculous, You were absolutely right, 3 extra fps on Rivatuner was like subtracting 40 hp from the T20, same ballpark as vsync @63 fps. So rather than Vsync being inherently slow, there are some magic fps numbers to hit. I stand corrected, no slow 60 and fast 60, but rather slow 63 and fast 60, presumably irrespective of limitation method. Do you have any additional magical fps-rates to try? Not sure why my Vsync is a little off, it selects 75.x when refresh rate is 144. 75.x fps is also slow, btw. Still shaking my head in disbelief...

No other "magical fps-rates", I just noticed it last year when my frame rate was a bit unstable and was going over 60, I started to lose speed on the straights compared to other drivers. I set my frame rate to 63 and on the track I tested, I was about 2-3 seconds slower than compared to the lap times I could get with 60. I don't know why, but it's just the way GTA works, it's quite odd.

yeah thats crazy. just wondering why for example fab.Β ICEMAN can not improve his laptimes by any means with high fps since he just now got a new monitor and myself doing 35s on maze with 60 and 144 fps. also a little new small test

Can you post video of both laps so we can try and find out whats going on with them?

If I'm not mistaken, people have different setups here. Kasumi compares 60 vs 144, both locked and practically identical speed - on dragrace and track. Story compares locked 60 vs. unlocked fluctuating fps (??), finding the latter about 2% faster. Experiments I would read with great interest: - Story doing Maze-whiz with unlocked high FPS compared to 60. This established 2:35 track @60fps, with freakish 2:34 occurring. If SPA difference carries over, Story might be able to do a 2:32?
- Kasumi testing unlocked fluctuating FPS as well, in addition to locked 144/60.
Not to mention that cars are different, Nero custom is a spoiler-less downforce car, isn't it? But 3:03-ish on SPA is about right for top guys at @60fps with T20/Osiris, isn't it?

No, Nero Custom uses spoiler traction thingers. It's the only one of the newer-ish cars that does not use a downforce multiplier.

was wondering if maybe nero custom was like the 900r in terms of top speed with the fps and what not, which would kinda explain the spa differences, but nothing i could find pointed towards that. would be nice if you could do a side by side of those laps like this StoryVS

I can't because: I can't even reach higher fps.
When I'd turn shadows and reflections completely off I could go above 155+ alone in a session and at night. But if I go above the 155+fps mark the game starts to stutter and the frames will dip like crazy Basically what I think is my cpu is on 100% usage at that point and its a bottleneck ? i5 4690k and gtx 1070 But I'm not sure since in all other games I can reach much migher fps without stuttering or frame dips after passing the 150 fps mark but I actually never play with more than 150 fps because that would make no sense with only 144hz, same as it makes no sense to play with more than like 60/70 fps on 60hz

Ok, CPU bottleneck matches my experience, with graphics set to 2004-level, I get unbearable stutter over 140fps on my i5 4670 and any background app using CPU dramatically impacts game, and if I'm close to the cpu-limit, any car skidding and knocking over a pole means stutter. It might not be a need for more than 150fps, but fluctuation instead. Perhaps still it could give different results if you could set a cap at 155 fps and not lock it, so it would fluctuate between 100-155, with some cpu-intensive settings at the right level (shadows?), but it would be a significant undertaking to find the performance difference between different fps intervals. Also, we don't know Story's FPS, 169 at the result screen does not tell us his typical range when racing, but hopefully he will share some videos.
I wonder if the 811/900R/Comet Retro glitch uses the same mechanisms, ie. if one optimizes one's system for max top speed on these that would also be the best for T20/Nero. The advantage is that glitch top speeds are relatively easy to measure, while a subtle boost-increase is perhaps only evident over a long lap and not necessarily easy to pin-point. There are also various different claims on what is the optimal setup, some say 120fps is the sweet spot for Comet Retro, others say 180fps really makes it fly (random claims from ppl who often race R* tracks in non-contact)
With an in-game speedometer this would be easier to quantify, but maybe the variations and differences is the exact reason why R* has it disabled.

Guys, this has been a game changer for me, who knew regular old V-sync (63/62 fps locked) is worse than locked 60?! Tried it on Maze Whiz just now to see for myself - bear in mind I'm by no means an amazing driver - best with V-sync was a 2:41.200. Best with locked 60 a 2:38.447. I mean what srsly. 2-3 fps difference for 2-3 seconds per lap, geegee ecksdee.
Watching the footage back comparing the laps, it's insane how much more easily you get to final gear max revs. It's like you get EMS Upgrade Stage 5 or something daft. The curb boosts are crazy!
I want to do more tests when I'm not as busy, this weekend maybe. I'm going to upload the laps to youtube and edit it in this post here later (probably tomorrow) if anyone wants to see a comparison.

I'd compared it to some other hot lap videos and my engine sounds were nothing like the others (I know the audio is borked in that original vid lol), so much more flat/low revs. Fuckin' -2 fps was the answer. hot diggity daffodil. Maybe one day I can do a fast just like you guys (who am i kidding lel).

Clearly a better top speed. About my feeling, the car is really ligther at high fps. It is more difficult to oversteer or loose the control of the car, it has a great acceleration. Idk. Looks like hydra vs panto for me.
